Bands of artificial turf set into the concrete break up a big pool deck. The turf never needs mowing or watering, and the concrete gives you room for chairs.

Low maintenance yard ideas

  • Swap the hardest-to-grow patches of grass for artificial turf.
  • Use stone beds instead of mulch, so there's nothing to top up every spring.
  • Put concrete curbing around the beds, so grass stays out and you can mow right along it.
  • Pick shrubs that stay a manageable size, so there's less trimming.

Dog-friendly yard ideas

Turf stays mud-free and rinses clean, and it doesn't get dead patches. Ask for turf made for pets, which drains faster.
